I can't think of a better way to celebrate my blog's one-year anniversary than to get cited for a blogging award--the Dardos--from one of my most treasured cohorts, Tony Dayoub over at Cinema Viewfinder. He said of me and the other four writers he cited: "These folks give me new insight into the world of cinema on an almost daily basis, and all are great writers to boot." To say the least, I'm overwhelmingly honored, as Tony's one of the finest, most concise film analysts out there. So, thank you, Tony! Hope to see you at TriBeCa this year! And now: a little about the Dardos:
The Dardos Awards is given for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing. These stamps were created with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers, a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.
The Rules are: 1) Accept the award by posting it on your blog along with the name of the person that has granted the award and a link to his/her blog, and 2) Pass the award to another five blogs that are worthy of this acknowledgement, remembering to contact each of them to let them know they have been selected for this award.
This is a challenge picking my favorite blogs. Putting me in with good company, Tony cited two already--the inimitable and supremely knowledgeable T.S. at Screen Savour and the equally amazing MovieMan at The Dancing Image. But I'll go with:
Stacy Ponder at Final Girl (the funniest film writer out there, with a breathtaking passion for her subject: horror films (particularly of the 70s and 80s)
Jack Pendarvis at The Place Where Jack Pendarvis Has A "Blog" (Jack turns blogging on its ear in a most entertaining fashion; his "blog" features fun, immaculately-worded insight into his many obsessions, including oatmeal, Jerry Lewis, and unicorns.)
Lisa, Jane and the gang at The Flaming Nose (TV coverage par excellence. No TV-related site out there matches this one for pure passion; full discosure: I sometimes write for this blog.)
Ed Howard at Only The Cinema (One of my favorite film writers, Howard dissects a film like no one else on the Web.)
I'll settle on a fifth one soon and get to contacting them. In the meantime, Tony and all you readers out there: Thanks for checking out my writing. It's really made my year, and I hope to do it for a long time to come.
Congrats, Dean! You deserve this!!
